Project: FSC joinery for new M&S store and M&S bank

Sector: Retail

Project Team: Simons Construction, Aukett Fitzroy Robinson Ltd, NJSR

Purpose of the project:

FSC joinery for ‘back of house’ areas in new, carbon efficient, M&S store and internal FSC joinery fit-out for new M&S bank.

Overview:

Marks & Spencer Cheshire Oaks is the second largest M&S store in the world, with over 148,000 sq. ft. of selling space over two floors. Its distinctive design makes it their greenest store to date.

Cheshire Oaks has been FSC chain of custody certified by BM TRADA, making it one of only a handful of retail buildings in the UK to have met the strict forest stewardship criteria. This means that every piece of timber used can be traced back to the forest in which it grew – the timber is 100% ethical and 100% sustainable.

In order for the development to gain full FSC certification we were required to become FSC Chain of Custody Certified. We are proud to hold this accreditation and to have been part of this unique and challenging project. Now we can offer chain of custody certification to future clients.

Further to the development of Marks & Spencer Cheshire Oaks, we fitted-out a new in-store bank, which aims to offer ‘the trusted Marks & Spencer brand values’ to its customers.

The items we provided and fitted for this joinery project include:

  • Internal walls
  • Bronze wall panelling
  • Walnut veneered wall
  • Glass screens and doors

The bank was opened by Crawford Prentice, Deputy CEO of M&S Bank, and Janet Marsden
M&S Bank Manager at Cheshire Oaks.
