Beccles Hospital has undergone a major refurbishment project, transforming the existing Minsmere ward into an Intermediate Care Centre as part of a plan to improve community-based services.

Working in partnership with NHS Property Services and LSI Architects LLP the £1.65m project included the refurbishment of existing spaces to bring them up to NHS standards, extension works to provide new sanitary support spaces to the wards including assisted WC and shower facilities, two additional single bedrooms with en-suites and a new community lounge.

P J Spillings undertook the major refurbishment works over 30 weeks which included new internal partition walls and associated door sets, new floor and ceiling finishes, masonry construction and roof works to the new extension as well as external works, finishes and decorations.

New electrical and mechanical services were installed included power, lighting, fire detection and alarms, heating, hot and cold water services, ventilation and associated fittings and controls.

The Intermediate Care Centre will provide intense rehabilitation and reablement so that patients can return to an independent life as quickly as possible. Eight single en-suite rooms will be available on the ward, along with three four-bed bays with separate toilet and washing facilities. Oxygen will be piped to every bedside, while patients will be able to undergo intensive rehabilitation in a dedicated therapy area.
